Picket Fence

Red Fence, originally uploaded by poetic mama.

In my mind’s eye lay the image of a picket fence
long ago erected with terror and sorrow
a bound of lies to this day trapping my heart
washing white with crimson shame

a brush stroke to hide the silent cry
a nail in the side of the post
leaving a dream shattered into nothingness
cloaked in broken discourse

the chosen white wash appeared mild, even meek
setting a tone of quiet hush
the cornerstone of an ignorant bliss
created to represent the boundary of security
